Privacy notice
Kin is a shared-money app in development. Right now this website has a waitlist, a newsletter and a blog. This notice explains what we collect through the website and what we do with it. When the Kin app launches, it will have its own full Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, and we'll ask you to agree to them before you use the app.
What we collect
- Your email address, when you join the waitlist or newsletter (they're one list).
- Basic sign-up details our email provider may record automatically, such as the date and time you joined, your approximate location based on your IP address, and whether you open or click our emails.
- Standard server logs our web host keeps for security and to keep the site running, such as IP address, browser type and pages requested.
- How you use the site, through analytics cookies and similar technologies: pages you visit, links you click, the site that sent you here, your device and browser type, and your approximate location based on your IP address.
We use Google Analytics and PostHog to understand how people find and use this site, and Google Search Console to see how the site shows up in Google search. Search Console uses Google's own search data and doesn't place anything on your device. We don't use advertising pixels, and we don't collect any financial information through this site.
How we use it
- To send our newsletter and updates about Kin's progress, launch and early testing.
- To invite you to try Kin or, if you agree, to talk to us about how you share money.
- To understand how people find and use the site, and to improve it.
- To keep the site and the list secure and free of spam.
We don't sell your information or share it with anyone for their own marketing, and we don't turn on Google's advertising features. Every email includes a link to unsubscribe.
Who helps us
We use a small number of service providers who handle data on our behalf and only to provide their service to us:
- Resend, which stores the email list and sends our emails.
- Cloudflare, which hosts this website and runs the signup form.
- PostHog, which provides website analytics.
- Google, which provides Google Analytics and Google Search Console.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our rights, or as part of a merger or sale of Kin, in which case this notice would continue to apply to your information.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, or until we stop sending the newsletter. If you unsubscribe, we may keep a record of your address only so we don't email you again. Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months and then deleted.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe using the link in any email.
- See, correct or delete your information by emailing help@kinmoney.app. We'll respond within 30 days.
- Analytics cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out and don't load Google Analytics or PostHog for you. We don't respond to Do Not Track signals, because there's no agreed standard for them.
Depending on where you live, state law may give you more rights over your information. Email us and we'll honor any request the law gives you, without treating you differently for making it.
Who this is for
Kin is planned for adults in the United States. Please don't join the waitlist if you're under 18. If we learn we've collected information from a child under 13, we'll delete it.
Security
We use reputable providers, encrypted connections and accounts protected by multi-factor authentication. No system is perfectly secure, but we only keep what we need.
Changes
If we change this notice, we'll update the date above. If a change affects how we use your email in a significant way, we'll tell you by email first.
